REFLECTIONS ON OUR CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

REFLECTIONS ON OUR CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

I have been a part of Cancana Resources Corporation for more than two years already. We were always deployed on the field to oversee the mining and production operations. Sure that is what I signed up for but what I really appreciate about this company is the genuine concern for the people living in these areas and their environment.

Let me first tell you about my CSR experience.  Our company was pushing for work-life balance. We could choose among the programs and activities lined up by the Public Affairs Unit – to help care for the environment, to read for the kids or to donate to victims of natural disasters. It was mandatory for all staff. And I am so glad that I participated because it was an eye-opener for me.  As an employee, I was proud to be part of a company that sought not just financial gain but to make an impact on social development as well.  But more important than that, as a responsible and concerned citizen, I knew I had to do something for the community where I worked. In my job, we would excavate the soils in different areas for mining. But we make sure we follow environmental rules and regulations to conduct responsible mining. Aside from that, as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, we also plant lots of trees in the regions where we operate to make sure that there would be roots to keep the soil intact even after mining. In this way, they are not vulnerable to soil erosion, liquefaction, and landslides. We also educate the people about how to take care of their environment and how to prepare for disasters. For them, Cancana Resources Corporation is not just another business company that is out there to make money but they treat us as partners in developing their communities.
