CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

We are living in a fast-paced and labor-driven world.  In the face of capitalism, automation, and globalization, people are more materialistic, individualistic and competitive.  Work and earning for a living have taken up so much of our time.  With these circumstances, it is easy to take for granted the community we live in.  People simply do not have the time and energy for anything else.

But is this really the case?  Has society become so calloused that humans can turn a deaf ear to cries for help?  Is it all just about the money?  If we cannot accept this case, how then do we encourage others to give a part of themselves for what we call the common good?  How can we reach out to others and gain a sense of community?  How can we participate and be involved as responsible citizens of our society aside from the taxes that we pay and those actions mandated by our laws?  We can bridge that gap through CSR.  We do not have to take the people away from their work, but their work can actually be their contribution in making this planet a better place to live in.   Through CSR, people in the business sector can still have a grasp of what the community needs.

We here at Cancana Resources Corporation make sure that we do our part in taking care of the community members in the regions where we operate. We do not just go to one place and exhaust all their natural resources. As a responsible company, we make sure there is sustainability for the environment and the livelihood of the people. We are accountable to the people first and foremost. That is why we make sure to employ locals and come up with programs and services that would benefit them and their environment.

REFLECTIONS ON OUR CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

REFLECTIONS ON OUR CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

I have been a part of Cancana Resources Corporation for more than two years already. We were always deployed on the field to oversee the mining and production operations. Sure that is what I signed up for but what I really appreciate about this company is the genuine concern for the people living in these areas and their environment.

Let me first tell you about my CSR experience.  Our company was pushing for work-life balance. We could choose among the programs and activities lined up by the Public Affairs Unit – to help care for the environment, to read for the kids or to donate to victims of natural disasters. It was mandatory for all staff. And I am so glad that I participated because it was an eye-opener for me.  As an employee, I was proud to be part of a company that sought not just financial gain but to make an impact on social development as well.  But more important than that, as a responsible and concerned citizen, I knew I had to do something for the community where I worked. In my job, we would excavate the soils in different areas for mining. But we make sure we follow environmental rules and regulations to conduct responsible mining. Aside from that, as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, we also plant lots of trees in the regions where we operate to make sure that there would be roots to keep the soil intact even after mining. In this way, they are not vulnerable to soil erosion, liquefaction, and landslides. We also educate the people about how to take care of their environment and how to prepare for disasters. For them, Cancana Resources Corporation is not just another business company that is out there to make money but they treat us as partners in developing their communities.
